Olga Spyropoulou feat. Ester Kaarina Nokkonen:

And this poem like the snow/

Ja tämä runo kuin lumi

durational, participatory performance

Part of the exhibition "In Continuous Dialogue: Tracing Memories" curated by Noora Lehtovuori.

Oksasenkatu 11 gallery

January 2023

And this poem like the snow/ Ja tämä runo kuin lumi is a durational participatory performance that explores transience, memory and authorship through the processes of writing and erasure. The performance takes place from the 14th until the 29th of January.

On the 14th of January, the performer writes continuously on the window of the Oksasenkatu11 gallery. Each sentence starts with the phrase "And this poem like the snow/ Ja tämä runo kuin lumi", and is completed each time in a different way. The audience is invited to participate in the writing by using the same phrase as a departure point in any language they wish. The action ends when the window is fully covered in words.

From January 15 to January 29, the audience members are invited to edit the text on the window by erasing as many words as they wish. The text might disappear completely.

Esther Kaarina Nokkonen (b. 1939, Tuusula) is a Finnish poet and author. "And this poem like the snow/ Ja tämä runo kuin lumi" is the title of one of Nokkonen’s lesser known poems. The poem is translated by Saara Kojo. Ester Kaarina is Olga’s heteronym.
